Water parameters

Altum Angelfish come from the Amazon River Basin, which has very soft and acidic water conditions. To replicate their natural environment in your tank, you will need to maintain a pH level between 6.0 and 7.0, with a total hardness (GH) of 2 to 4 dGH and carbonate hardness (KH) of 1 to 2 dKH. You can achieve this by using reverse osmosis (RO) or deionized (DI) water and adding a buffering substrate or acids like peat moss or almond leaves.

Altum Angelfish are omnivores and require a balanced diet of both plant and animal matter. A high-quality flake or pellet food should form the basis of their diet, supplemented with frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and Mysis shrimp. You can also offer them vegetables like blanched spinach or zucchini, or algae wafers.

Tank Setup

Altum Angelfish are sensitive to water quality, so it is important to maintain a clean and well-filtered tank. They require a minimum tank size of 75 gallons, with plenty of swimming space and vertical height to accommodate their tall bodies. Provide ample hiding places such as plants, rocks, and driftwood to make them feel secure.

Altum Angelfish are a stunning addition to any aquarium, but they require specific care requirements to thrive. By providing them with the right water chemistry, diet, and tank setup, you can enjoy their beauty and graceful swimming behavior for years to come.
